Journalism Class Contract
I _________________ understand that while Journalism is an elective, it is also very important in that my complete cooperation is needed. I will be in class on time. I will do what is asked of me. I will be exactly where I’m supposed to be when I’m supposed to be, or I understand that I will face disciplinary consequences. I will give 100% participation to this class because so many others are depending on me to do my jobs and do them well. I will not discuss the contents of this class with anyone who is not in the class. Everything is confidential. I understand the above requirements for Journalism class.

BCS Interact is a service organization in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of McMinnville. Our motto is “Service Above Self”. We take pride in the fact that we have “the best of the best students” who are willing to live by the “4-Way Test”. We devote our time to service projects by helping in five different areas: school, community, international, club fellowship, and district fellowship. Our club is exclusive because we want those who truly have the proper BCS attitude and live by a strong moral code. If you are not willing to participate, to volunteer, and to work without whining, then do not apply. Not everyone who submits an application will be inducted in the club due to the limited number of members that we may have each year.

In your high school career, have you been sent to the principal for any disciplinary procedure? If yes, why?
Do you understand that you will be required to attend no less than 90% of all Interact meetings?
You will be required to work and document at least 15 service hours to remain active in the club. You will be required to work and document at least 20 service hours to be eligible for convention in March. Each Interact member will be required to attend several Rotary meetings.
In the space provided, write a 250 word essay discussing why you want to be in Interact and what you would contribute to this organization.

I understand that the sponsor and/or Mr. Harper reserve the right to terminate my membership, after due process, if I do not maintain the high standards of Interact. I understand that being a member of Boyd’s Interact is a privilege. I will not abuse that privilege.
I will do my best to uphold the principles of Interact and of Boyd Christian School at all events and will behave in a responsible manner. I realize that I am representing the school, and I will obey the Interact dress code. I will act appropriately so as not to tarnish what Boyd’s Interact has worked diligently to achieve.

Supply List for 9th-12th English
For English class, you will need
- a notebook (1" is fine)
- notebook paper (wide or college ruled)
- pencils or pens (black or blue ONLY)
- 3 x 5" index cards
- a highlighter
- a folder with pockets and prongs (the cheap kind)
- red pen for correcting/marking essays
- at least one divider tab for corrected work
You may set up your notebook as you wish as long as you have one section for corrected work. You may choose to have other dividers if you have that type of personality. Categories could be homework, quizzes/daily grades, rough drafts, notes, and corrected work.

A: I really don't care what method you choose as long as your work is legible, logical, and appropriate for the prompt.
Q: What are some things for which points will be deducted on this grade?
A: Please remember a few rules of grammar. Underline book titles. Put quotes around quotations (wow!) and smaller works such as magazine articles and song titles. Commas are not evil if you follow the rules. Always proofread and check your spelling.
Make sure that you do what the assignment says.

Summer Reading Requirement
The 18th-century English essayist Sir Richard Steele suggested, "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body". Our goal is to establish life-long reading habits as well as prepare students for college. Avid readers tend to do better on standardized tests, have greater comprehension of all types of literature and non-fiction works, and are more successful in school.
Choose one novel from the list. For each chapter,
o write a brief (depending upon the length of the chapter) summary in your own words
o provide a significant quote from the chapter cited correctly [“You should use this format when citing a quote.” (Hawthorne 112)]
o explain why you chose this quote (This is not an interpretation of the quote; this is an explanation of the quote’s personal meaning to you.) Please explain any literary devices used in the quote, if any. A single sentence explanation is not sufficient. Writing “Because I like it” is not sufficient.
